Love your hair and your hair will love you back

(Disclaimer : I'm not by any mean a professional in fashion or those things, I just want to express my opinion on this blog. I do not think either that I'm the best, prettiest or anything, once again I just try to explain my own experience and opinions, so it's not general truth).

So, recently I had an huge revelation : my hair was really unbearable. Being half, I've always had frizzy, dry and fragile hair. I mean, I love my hair, the color is great, it's fluffy, it's long etc but it's just a pain to maintain in an at least okay state. If I let it curl naturally, it tangle and make dreadlocks-like strands within two days, but if I straighten it, it become really breakable and splits at ends. So after I started taking care of my diet (balanced healthy diet without cutting things I like :D) and my skin care (skin-care and make-up routine here) on a daily basis, I decided to do the same for my hair, and guess what ? It worked ! It's been a few months since I started my hair care program, and my hair has never been so pretty. I'm going to take this program further step by step, with the final goal of letting my hair grow until it hit my knees.

Here are my tips for stronger and prettier hair

Mask
My hair is dry. And mean dryyyyy. Like desert in full summer's dry. So I use some basic oils as mask before my shampoo. I brush my hair thoroughly then gentle massage with olive oil on all the length and mixed ricin and olive oil at the roots (ricin oil help your hair grow faster and stronger), wrape it in a towel and let it do it thing for an hour or so, then I wash it. I have to wash and rince several time because my hair is really thick and long, or it'll get greasy.
Olive oil is not really a secret, because arabian women traditionally use it, but if your hair is dry you may give a try ! Take virgin olive oil, yes, the one you also use to cook, it works too.

Masque

Shampoo
If you ask any half person about how much they wash their hair, they will certainly not say more than one a week. Why ? Because shampoo can make your already fragile hair break and split. Since long I only washed my hair once a week, or else it dry and break even more, but I've first moved to two shampoo per month, I'm currently more or less at a shampoo/month, and my final goal is to totally suppress it (curious ? Google "no-poo" or "no-shampoo"). And yes my hair smells fine, and not it's not greasy.
But I'm still not there, plus I need shampoo to remove my oil masks, so what I do to wash my hair ? You can do your own shampoo, but I choose comfort by buying some of this wonderful Lush hard shampoo : Godiva

Shampoing

Two shampoo + mask session (= a month of treatment) later, my hair is softer, easier to brush and less dry.
For the last rinse, I used boiled or filtered water (i.e : not hard water) with a dash of lemon juice in it, it give a lovely glossy effect.

If your hair tend to be greasy, mint shampoo may be the best for you. Transitionning have to be slow and gradual, or your hair will be even more greasy.

I also use dry shampoo more or less once a week on my bang, it tend to become greasy because I straighten it a lot. Some use bicarbonate, I use flour. You just have to scrub a little bit you hair with white flour and the brush it out (don't forget to wash your hairbrush with hot water and soap afterward). It's really effective.

Brushing your hair
Brushing your hair is super important. We all already seen in a teen or child movie a stupid blond girl brushing her long blond ponytail one hundred time before going to bed. It's not actually that stupid. Brushing your hair 100 times on each sides with a natural bristled (is that the word ?) hairbrush help bringing your natural sebum on your hair lenght to naturally hydrate it, plus it close hair scales and make it stronger. Doing it once a day is enought, the better being doing it in the morning. Which lead me to

Hair care by night
The best thing to do with your hair at night ? Tie it. Braids or anything, but the lenght have to be protected from friction and sweat. You can also do a mask from time to time during an entire night, but not too often, it can make your hair suffocate.

Knotted bun

Tying hair
If you are at home/on a casual day and don't want a fancy hairdo or anything, please don't just put your hair into a ponytail. Hair accessories is the worst thing that can happens to your hair just after anti-dandruff shampoo (this thing's so acidic it burns my sclap, I don't know how can people use it), it litteraly break the hair. No metal clips, elastics or plastic headbands, thank you. The best thing to do are chopsticks buns, braids and knotted buns. Note that if your hair is tied up, it's protected of a lot of things, the more often you tie it the more it'll grow healthy and quickly.

Food complement
I use 'brewer's yest' pills to help my hair grow. It works great in my opinion : I cuted off 5 centimeters of split ends last month and it had nearly all grown back. Strange, because my bodyhair don't seems to grow that much...Anyway, I'm pretty pleased with it, it's a three month cure so I look forward to more result. Brewer's yest pills also help your nails grow stronger and faster (it make your body produce more keratin I think), so as I'm a nail biter I also try to let them grow out.
I should say that my hair grow pretty fast even without any pills (but not my nails), and that some people are not affected by this kind of food complement.
This kind of pills isusually vegan friendly, without chemicals, it can be found in any drugstore, department store and health food shop.

Going out with friends !

This week end was kind of exhausting, but terribly funny. On Saturday, I catched Valentine day's lolita meetup after my classes. We had some tea and pastries at Carette, place des Vosges, then we browsed Axes Femme shop one again (god I love this shop, the new shoes are so perfect !)

My outfit of the day

And, today I spent some time with my classmate and friends, Claire, Claire and Marie (yes, two Claires, and as my name's Marie too, it's kind of funny when we get to introduce ourselves as a group).

First we had some ramen in Japantown. It was pretty good, but not as good as the last one I eated (Naritake, forever the best ramenya in Paris). The recipe itself is pretty conservative : soja, spinach, two porck slice which was a little bit thick, boiled eggs and naruto. I got the miso ones, because the flavour is stronger, and I really like the pasta texture. It was also my first time tasting 'naruto', and...it's kind of meh in my opinion.

Then we more or less squatted my favourite bar : le Dernier Bar avant la Fin du Monde (The Bar at the End of the Universe), which is a pretty geeky place with nice food and drinks, nice atmosphere and a lot of board game to play and comics to read. We played a nice but quite complicated board game based on a french webshow called 'le visiteur du futur', and we had a lot of tea. I just realised we spent nearly five hours there this very afternoon !

I first had a 'captain picard's earl grey', then a 'tchaï-huluo' tea. As you can see, foods and drinks are named after pop-culture references.

I, Claire and Claire. (no it's not beer, is tea. In beer mugs. Quite badass.)
Claire with our beer-tea mugs, which had pretty epic dragons
stamped on it as well as an engraved one at the bottom.
And pretty Marie, because she wasn't on the other pictures.
I more or less omitted that we actually had one and only one alcoholic drink. I don't really like strong alcohol, but Claire (the one I was clinking glasse with) and I are big fans of 'the Hitchicker's Guide to the Galaxy', and this cocktail's name is 'Pan-galactic gargle blaster', yes, the very one, so we had to try it. It listed a few different boozes, and looked pretty strong, but hey, the book's one is meant to be one of the strongest cocktail in the all universe.
Finally, it had way to much of aniseed flavour due to absinthe I guess, so it ended up being a little bit nauseating (isn't the word a bit strong ?), but was still ok. We shared it within the four of us. Ah, and the other ones are named 'Serenity', it was with chaï tea syrup, grapefruit and litchi juice.

Two Serenity and a Pan-galactic gargle blaster
OOTD

I have to say that I had a really lovely week end with so much adorable people, and I hope we can do this kind of stuff more often !

Chinese New Year

Last week, it was Chinese New Year's celebration in Chinatown. I took a lot of pictures, so enjoy !

And that's was our New Year lunch. I originally did dumpling but they turned overcooked (apparently I steamed them too long and they were all broke) so we baught a few dumplings, pork brioche and pork paté, and I made fried rice with dried pork on it. Yumy !

Latest outfit and sales haul

Yes, yes, I've bought a few things on sales, and I'm currently waiting for an iromuji kimono, a komono set (accessories for kimono wearing) and a Victorian Maiden red long jsk. Ah and I will most certainly try and buy one of IW's outlet pack soon.
I can't go to Japan this summer due to scholar obligations, so I take more time to organize my travel and will go for two weeks of full tourism instead of a working month in April of the next year. That way I have a full year to make it perfect, and maybe my parent's will not fear so much of me going alone over there anymore.

Anyway, here is my haul

Shopping at Forever 21 and Axes Femme, recieved my package too

Forever 21 sweater, shoes and rings

Ah ha stripper shoes !
